——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

March 18, 2013: The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, the Honorable Federico Hernández Denton, today signed an Administrative Order at the San Juan Judicial Center that extended the use of a modern recording of court proceedings known as “Touch For the Record” to all investigation rooms of the Court of First Instance, municipal halls, halls of preliminary hearings, juvenile halls and hearings before examiners of child support. It is a system that will be operated by the very judges who have been recording court proceedings since its inception. Under this initiative, the Chief Justice of the Judiciary “expands access to justice and provides citizens greater guarantees of transparency.”

“The judiciary adopted, as public policy in 2008, the recording of all oral proceedings in their rooms, regardless of the type of process, the subject or the stage of the case. Currently, the recording process is available in the High Court in civil and criminal cases in the trial phase, and in the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court. With this system, to be operated easily by the judges themselves from the bench, without any support staff, we cover all legal proceedings, from initiation to completion. “said Hernández Denton.

Among the advantages of this system the Chief Justice said it is more efficient, faster and cheaper than the old tapes (reel to reel), has more storage, provides direct access to the proceedings concluded and facilitates the preparation of re-recordings, transcripts and minutes.

“In addition to the operational and administrative benefits, from the judicial point of view, it results in a safeguard for both the judge and the parties that all procedures are recorded and can be reviewed. As an example, there was no recorded record of what happened in a given cause for arrest pursuant to Rule 6 of the Criminal Procedure, or in processes under the well-known Law 140 on Provisional Legal Status. Now, in case of a dispute, one can review what was discussed or transcribed into a bill which provides greater guarantees of transparency and fairness to all parties, “said Hernández Denton. He added that the new system will also be available for viewing by examiners for child support.

The implementation of this new system entailed the training of municipal judges who will be responsible for the operation of the equipment. Investment in equipment and licenses for the implementation of the new system was $ 1.5 million.

“The implementation of this project greatly advances our goal of putting technology at the service of judicial work for the benefit of the citizenry that everyday requires more agility in judicial proceedings. Similarly, it meets many of the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan of the Judiciary for the years 2012 to 2015, entitled “Justice and Service,” aimed at promoting excellence in the administration of justice and public confidence in their tribal “concluded Hernández Denton.

ForTheRecord Partners with Court Record Solutions to Build First End-to-End, Secure, Online Conduit for Captured Digital Audio, Transcript Production and Content Management

Phoenix, AZ USA/Williamsburg, VA USA – 18 September 2012 - ForTheRecord (FTR) andCourt Record Solutions (CRS), two of the leading and progressive technology companies in the court market, announced today they are joining efforts to deliver an innovative, seamless and end-to-end digital solution.

The powerful partnership integrates CRS’s LiveCopy, Cortex and Court.fm applications with the functionality of FTR’s suite of digital recording and content management products. It is the next step in the evolution of access and control of digital content where courts, attorneys and interested parties can realize significant cost and time savings.

Courts and attorneys are challenged by time and costs in day-to-day operations and case management. The solution will address these issues by offering flexibility and control while providing a strong return on investment.

Upon deployment of this solution, options will be available for the capture, delivery and control of the digital content of a hearing’s proceedings, either in court or now remotely. The innovation enables courts and law firms to have control over their operations by configuring these parameters to meet their specific needs.

Further, attorneys and litigants can better control certain costs by avoiding both the automatic procurement of sometimes unnecessary transcripts as well as the delays experienced during transcript delivery.

The solution will provide users with the option for immediate access to the digital audio content and expedited digital transcripts. Courts can benefit by taking control of and having full access to the digital content and transcript, and by having the ability to manage the digital content for future access initiatives.

“This is the first ever, end-to-end, secure, online conduit for captured digital audio, transcript production and content management. Not since the early days of Westlaw and Lexis, has the judicial system been presented with such an opportunity for positive change,” said FTR Executive Vice President Rick Spotts.

“In addition to the court and trial attorney (deposition) markets, this solution will allow the ‘freelance’ stenographic and voice writer firm owner to broaden his/her range of services and allow end users to select the type of service they want.”

The solution – cobranded and to be marketed exclusively by FTR and available in the Fourth Quarter of 2012 – will leverage the advantages and features of both FTR’s and CRS’s other existing applications, while bringing all products into a cohesive and consistent user experience and single solution.

For more information or to schedule a live or web based demonstration of this compelling solution, please contact SueLynn Morgan, Director of FTR Consulting Services, at +1-480-395-5538.

Phoenix, AZ, October 19, 2011 — ForTheRecord (FTR), a global leader in digital recording and content management solutions for judicial and public safety venues, today released a new suite of products as part of TheRecord Manager family, namely the Access EditionTM, Guardian EditionTM and Warehouse EditionTM.

TheRecord Manager, suitable for courts of all sizes, facilitates a multitude of tasks such as dual archiving, replication, on-demand and automated reformatting of recordings to alternate formats, sealing and encryption. Plus, now, with the newly included Access Edition, TheRecord Manager delivers an array of reformatting capabilities, offering clients broader access to content as well as automatic, scheduled format conversions.

Alternatively, the Guardian Edition enables clients to seal and or encrypt their recorded content, thereby restricting access to authorized personnel only. Lastly, the Warehouse Edition product leverages the latest in software advancements to provide an enhanced user experience with near-instant access to all FTR content, including across a virtual private or wide area network.

Additionally, TheRecord Manager suite helps US Federal Courts automate the conversion of individual hearing recordings to single-channel MP3 files for posting into the CM-ECF/PACER system, saving valuable time and improving process efficiencies.

“The new additions to TheRecord Manager product suite are a result of our dedicated and focused effort to provide new and existing FTR clients with a robust content management solution that meets their specific needs,” said Daniel Bennett, Executive Vice President of FTR. “It is a platform on which we will continue to build and deliver expanding capabilities to benefit our clients in the years to come.”

It’s been a while since I have posted a blog entry and I apologize for that delay. It has been a busy year!

Firstly, I want to bring you up to speed on FTR products. You may have already seen our announcements and promotional materials highlighting the launch of a new version of FTR Interrogator (v5) in May, following much anticipation from the market. In just a short time, we have received a lot of great feedback on this new product and we are looking forward to more of the same. In the Court market, we continue to expand our global reach, following a major win in Slovenia. We recently issued a Press Release highlighting the installation of FTR products in 352 courtrooms nationwide. The Project “Audio Recording in Courts” was part of E-justice projects in Slovenia, and was co-financed by the European Social Fund. A big thank you to all FTR staff and to our local partner that was instrumental in winning the deal and ensuring a smooth and successful implementation.

You may have also noticed (through our recent ads and website banners) that we will soon be launching a new suite of content management products. For the last 15+ years, we have focused our efforts on developing top-class recording and note-taking solutions that has enabled us to be a recognized global leader in this field. Now, our clients’ needs have evolved and they need robust, effective tools that can help them manage the vast amount of digital content that has been created over the years. FTR has, once again, stepped up to deliver precisely these solutions. This foray into content management is an exciting time for FTR, as we develop innovative approaches to solve new problems faced by our clients, while keeping any operational changes to a minimum. It is also an example of our commitment to always deliver the latest in useful, value-adding solutions to the market.

I would also like to use this space to highlight a unique advantage of FTR products, specifically, our powerful, patented technology – ThinkLink®. Recently, we added a new page to our website that provides more information, but here is a summary:

ThinkLink is the ‘engine’ that enables users to dynamically link their notes to specific points of interest within digital audio/video recordings. While other recording systems are capable of linking notes to recordings, FTR’s capabilities are unique because:

Users do not need to be connected to the recording system itself while creating notes. In other words, a dedicated recording engine (e.g. FTR Reporter, FTR Touch etc) can be running, while the court clerk (for instance), can be taking notes from elsewhere.

Multiple people (e.g. clerk, judge and/or attorneys) can be taking their own personal notes, independent of each other and disconnected from the recording system. Each of them can then link their notes to the relevant recording at a later time.

Most importantly, all of this is accomplished without any type of database. Hence, there is little impact on existing network infrastructure, systems and processes, resulting in lower upfront and capital expenditure as well as ongoing maintenance expenses for our clients. Do visit the web page on ThinkLink and reach out to us if you’d like to learn more!

Lastly, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to become a fan of our Facebook page or subscribe to our YouTube channel – it’s a great way to keep in touch with both industry and FTR news!

ForTheRecord (FTR) digital recording solutions implemented in 352 courtrooms across Slovenia

Phoenix, AZ, June 20, 2011 — ForTheRecord (FTR), a global leader in digital recording and content management solutions for judicial and public safety venues, today announced that all 352 court rooms in Slovenia have been outfitted with the FTR Gold suite of products. Project “Audio Recording in Courts” is part of E-justice projects in Slovenia, and is co-financed by the European Social Fund.

FTR Reporter and FTR Mixer were the key products from the FTR Gold family that were leased by the Ministry of Justice through FTR partner and audio integrator, AVC Group based in Slovenia. In addition, the courts also leased copies of TheRecord Manager and FTR Monitor software solutions to facilitate superior management of their digital recordings.

Jani Medic, from AVC, who led the team that designed and project-managed the complex installation said, “The FTR suite of products met the requirements of what we were looking for almost perfectly. We needed to record up to eight independent channels, all of which had to be fully backed up. In addition, the recordings were required to be shared amongst judges, lawyers and transcription services, while providing security, usage tracking and archiving. The FTR solution had all of these components and was able to be customized.”

According to Daniel Bennett, Executive Vice President of FTR, “The courts in Slovenia were looking for major productivity gains along with enhanced services for the judiciary and legal practitioners. The FTR system was tested against stringent requirements and proved to be able to deliver the type of results that the Ministry was looking for.” Further, he added, “Slovenia now has one of the world’s most efficient court recording work flow systems and is well placed to meet future demands for open and transparent administration of justice.”
