Note: FTR Player Version 5.7.0 (or higher) is required to play recordings made using the FTR Gold 5.7.0 recording application. In the 5.7.0 release, the recording engine was updated with newer technologies that are incompatible with earlier versions of FTR Player. Recordings made on FTR Gold 5.6.2 (or below) can still be played back in FTR Player Version 5.7.0 (or higher).
When you receive recordings made on an FTR system from a court, you will generally receive a number of .TRM files; FTR records in 5 minute blocks to simplify distribution of content, so you should see a number of files with “.TRM” after the file name (12 .TRM files make up approximately 1 hour of audio). To start playback, open FTR Player and navigate to the folder the recordings are in. Clicking ‘Open’ will start the audio playing in FTR Player.
In addition to .TRM media files, FTR Player opens standard media file types such as WMV, MP3, WAV, AVI, MPG, BWF, WMA and ASF and also integrates with FTR Log Notes for a complete playback experience in production or review.
FTR Gold is a popular software program used by courts around the world to digitally record hearings. FTR .TRM files are unique in that they let you control individual channels on the recording from a single file. This lets you hear exactly what was said by cutting out the “noise” of someone talking at the same time (this is often called “over talk”).
FTR Player currently only works on Microsoft Windows operating systems, but we are investigating playback options on Apple OS X and Linux systems.
